Crockpot Sweet & Sour Turkey Meatballs

by Mindi Cherry on December 15, 2009

It was chilly the other day and I was in the mood for “comfort food”…and this certainly fit the bill! I think that my husband liked them better than my regular Turkey Meatballs. They were certainly moister than the other recipe and because the meatballs actually cooked in the crockpot, required less time in the kitchen!

2 pounds ground turkey

2 teaspoons multi-herb seasoning (I used Mrs. Dash)

1 tablespoon dried parsley

1 egg white

1 cup bread crumbs or rolled oats (I used the oats)

1/2 tsp each salt & pepper

2 15-ounce cans tomato sauce

2 cups reduced sodium chicken broth

1 cup chili sauce

1/2 cup cider vinegar

2/3 cup brown sugar

2 teaspoons Herbs de Provence or dried thyme

1. In a large bowl, mix together all meatball ingredients. Shape in to about 30-35 meatballs and place them in your crockpot

2. In another bowl, mix together the sauce ingredients. Pour mixture over meatballs

3. Cover and cook on LOW for 5-7 hours or on HIGH for 3 hours.

4. If possible, a few times during cooking (and using potholders), lift the stoneware bowl of the crockpot and gently “swirl” it so that the content move around/mix a bit (so they don’t stick. you don’t want to mix with a spoon because the meatballs may break up)

5. Serve with mashed potatoes (and hopefully a green vegetable. As you can see, my family won’t eat green veggies!)
